Chikungunya
Chikungunya is an insect borne Alphavirus that is transmitted to humans by virus-carrying Aedes mosquitoes.
Symptoms of chikungunya include:
- -> a fever up to 40 C (104 F) that lasts for 2 days and then ends abruptly
- -> rashes and arthritis affecting multiple joints, headaches and slight photophobia – discomfort or pain to the eyes due to light exposure
- -> all the symptoms last longer than the fever itself.

Chikungunya Mosquito
The chikunguya mosquito is actually the aedes mosquito. Aedes mosquitoes have stripes like zebras and the female mosquitoes attack mostly your feet and legs.
Wearing closed footwear and long pants may help, mosquito repellent may work as well and mosquito netting at night is a must when you are in an exposed area.
